Xbox on Android: start playing from your console or the cloud

Your phone becomes an Xbox screen. Choose where the game itself will run, then prepare your first connection.

If you want to play installed games from your own Xbox, start with Remote Play. If the game you want is available to you in Xbox Cloud Gaming, you can choose the cloud—even if you own a console. These methods differ in where the game runs and the access terms; in both cases, the phone receives the picture and sends commands.

Find your next step

Where should you start?

Choose your starting point. Below is a short route to your first launch.

Prepare the console for Remote Play

  1. Enable remote features and check the Xbox power mode.
  2. Sign in to XBPlayer with the required Microsoft profile.
  3. Connect at home, launch an installed game and check controls.
  4. If you plan to play away from home, repeat the test over another network.

Check access to Xbox Cloud Gaming

  1. Make sure the cloud service is available for your country and account.
  2. Find your game in the cloud catalog under your profile.
  3. Open XBPlayer's cloud mode and sign in.
  4. Start with a familiar game and set up controls.

Compare one game on one device

If the game is available to you in both modes, use one network and a similar scene. Compare sign-in, text readability, response to input and how easily you can continue saved progress. A cloud queue and an unavailable home console are different limitations.

Two ways to play, each with its own preparation

Remote Play streams the game from your Xbox. The console must have remote features configured, the required profile available and the game installed. Your phone connects to it over a network: at home or through the internet. If the game is on a disc, disc-launch requirements still apply—streaming does not turn it into a digital purchase.

Xbox Cloud Gaming runs the game on Microsoft's cloud service. You do not need to turn on your home Xbox. Instead, your country of use, account, access to the cloud game and the service's current rules matter. Buying a game alone does not mean you can launch it in the cloud.

Both modes are available in XBPlayer. Choose the mode before troubleshooting: your home console's sleep settings help with Remote Play, but do not eliminate a cloud queue. Detailed Remote Play and Cloud Gaming comparison.

What to prepare before signing in

For your first launch, you need a Microsoft account with the required Xbox profile, a compatible device with XBPlayer, a connection and a way to control the game. On Android, you can start with touch buttons or connect a controller. The device requirements and account sign-in guide will help you prepare.

Choose one familiar game. For Remote Play, it must run on your Xbox; for Cloud Gaming, it must be available in the cloud to your specific account. Enter passwords and one-time codes only as part of Microsoft's sign-in process; the XBPlayer team does not need them.

First session: usability first, then quality

Your first launch should achieve three things: you have signed in to the right profile, opened the right game and can control it. Full steps are in the separate guides: Remote Play on Android and Xbox Cloud Gaming on Android.

After connecting, play a quiet sequence and open the map or inventory. If buttons, audio or movement cause problems, address one symptom using the first-session checklist. Test saving through the game: returning to a session that is still running does not prove that progress was saved.

Before traveling, separately test connecting to your Xbox from an external network. Success on home Wi-Fi does not confirm access through mobile data or a hotel network.

What you pay for separately

XBPlayer payment, game purchases and Microsoft access are different products. Client features do not grant a game license or replace Xbox Cloud Gaming terms. In turn, Microsoft's cloud access does not determine the time balance in the mobile version of XBPlayer.

If a limit prevents launch, check which service displays the message. XBPlayer minutes and payment explains the app's terms; Game Pass for phone gaming covers access to Microsoft's games and cloud.

Frequently asked questions

Can I play without an Xbox?

Yes, through Xbox Cloud Gaming, if the service and the game you want are available to your account. This is a separate way to launch games and does not require a home console.

Do I need to download the game to my phone?

When streaming, the Xbox version of the game runs on a console or in the cloud. Android receives picture and audio; the Xbox game is not installed in the phone's storage.

Can I start without a controller?

XBPlayer has touch controls. Usability depends on the game: test simultaneous inputs, aiming and the position of on-screen buttons in advance.
