Xbox Remote Play cannot find your console: what to check

An empty console list, a connection error and a failed wake-up are different symptoms. Check the profile and powered-on Xbox, then compare the two connection methods.

If your Xbox does not appear in Remote Play, check the account, turn on the console manually and check remote features. Then search again on your main home network and compare the result with official Remote Play. While the console list is empty, there is no reason to change stream bitrate or resolution.

This guide covers Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Make sure you have selected access to your own console in XBPlayer, rather than the cloud library: Xbox Cloud Gaming runs games on Microsoft’s servers. If the console is already listed but connecting produces an error, use the Remote Play connection troubleshooting guide.

1. Check the account in XBPlayer and on your Xbox

Check the gamertag—the Xbox profile name—in XBPlayer and compare it with the profile you use on the console. On a shared phone or with several accounts, you can successfully sign in to Microsoft but select a different user.

If the profile is different, switch to the correct account in XBPlayer and open the console list again. If in doubt, check the Microsoft account details; the profile picture alone is not enough. Purchases and a subscription do not replace this check. See the sign-in and profile selection guide for details.

If you previously hid this console in XBPlayer, open “Settings → Hidden consoles” and restore it to the list. If you have several Xbox consoles, give each a recognizable name: choosing an account and console.

2. Turn on the console and check remote features

Do this check beside your Xbox. If you are already away from home, you will need someone at the console to help, or you will need to check when you return.

  1. Turn on the Xbox manually and wait for the home screen. Make sure the console is connected to the Xbox network. If it requires sign-in or a mandatory update before you can continue, complete it.
  2. Press the Xbox button on the controller and open Profile & system → Settings → Devices & connections → Remote features.
  3. Check Enable remote features. This is the menu path documented in Microsoft’s setup guide.
  4. Leave the console on. On Android, close and reopen XBPlayer, then check the console list for the selected account.

A working home screen is enough at this stage: launching an installed game does not test Xbox discovery. A license error in a particular game needs separate investigation and does not explain an empty device list.

If the Xbox becomes available only after you turn it on manually, check remote wake-up. Sleep mode is needed to wake the console; with Shutdown selected, remote features are supported while the console itself is on. An unavailable Xbox that is switched off does not, by itself, prove a profile or permissions problem.

3. Repeat the check on your main home network

For the first connection, we recommend using the same local network as your Xbox. Connect the Android device to your main home Wi-Fi network. The console can connect to the same router by cable or Wi-Fi. Leave it on and check the list again.

If you were using a guest network, comparing it with the main network helps check the effect of network isolation. Guest networks may restrict access to home devices, but an empty list does not prove that this is the cause. Record the result before changing other settings.

Using one local network is a condition of this comparison test, not a permanent Remote Play restriction. If the Xbox appears at home but is unavailable over mobile data, move on to checking connections away from home.

4. Compare the list with official Remote Play

Open xbox.com/remoteplay in a supported browser and sign in with the same Microsoft account. Use the same Android device and network if possible, and leave the Xbox on. If you have to use another device, record that: the comparison conditions have changed.

The browser lists the console, but XBPlayer’s list is emptySend our team the results of both attempts, your XBPlayer version and connection conditions. These details will help us reproduce the problem.
The console appears, but the session will not startNote the error message and continue with general Remote Play troubleshooting: device discovery has already succeeded.

Keep two results separate: “the console is listed” and “the stream started”. If you started an official session for comparison, end it before trying XBPlayer again: Microsoft allows one remote gaming session at a time.

5. Prepare your findings for support

If the settings are correct but the list is still empty, keep a record of the results so far. You can perform a normal console restart after saving any active game, then repeat the comparison test. Resetting the Xbox, deleting XBPlayer data or opening random ports is not necessary for this.

Prepare the following for your support request:

  • Xbox model, Android device model, and Android and XBPlayer versions.
  • Console state: turned on manually, connected to the Xbox network, remote features enabled.
  • Connection type: main or guest Wi-Fi, wired Xbox connection, tested at home or away.
  • Separate results for browser Remote Play and XBPlayer: console missing, listed, or listed but unable to connect.
  • Time of the test and the exact error message, if one appears.

If the problem occurs through both connection methods, start with the Xbox status page and Microsoft support. If the console is missing only in XBPlayer, send your description to our team at hi@hetko.eu. You do not have to complete every comparison—tell us what you were able to check.
