Xbox Racing Games on Android: Forza Horizon 6, FH5, Motorsport and DIRT 5
Choose your next drive: explore Japan or Mexico, improve a lap time or finish an off-road race. We compare four racing games and how to play them.
On this page
Forza Horizon 6 is for exploring Japan, Horizon 5 for Mexico's roads, Motorsport for chasing a clean lap, and DIRT 5 for off-road racing. On Android, you can continue an Xbox game through Remote Play or launch a cloud version available to your account. Start by choosing what you want to do: explore a world, finish a race or improve your own result.
Four racing games for different kinds of driving
| Game | When to choose it | Where to start | Xbox needed to install the game |
|---|---|---|---|
| Forza Horizon 6 | You want to discover Japan, its city streets and mountain roads | After the introduction, try Shirakawa Circuit or explore the newly opened map | Xbox Series X|S |
| Forza Horizon 5 | You want to explore an open world and switch activities as the mood takes you | A free-roam drive along a paved road | Xbox One or Series X|S |
| Forza Motorsport, the 2023 release | You enjoy practicing braking and improving lap times | Open Practice in the Builders Cup career | Xbox Series X|S |
| DIRT 5 | You want off-road routes, varied surfaces and individual races | Time Trial on a chosen track, then Arcade | Xbox One or Series X|S |
The final column lists the consoles on which you can install the Xbox version for Remote Play. It is not a list of cloud-play devices. Forza Motorsport here means the 2023 game, not Motorsport 7 or another numbered release.
First, check where the stream will come from
For Remote Play, install your chosen game on a compatible Xbox and check that it launches under your profile on the console itself. Then connect to it in XBPlayer. Your phone receives the picture and sends your inputs; this does not install an Android version of the game.
For Xbox Cloud Gaming, you do not need a console. Open the current cloud catalog under your account and check whether the specific game is available in your region under your access terms. A game appearing in the store, a subscription or your own library does not by itself mean you can stream it from the cloud. If cloud play is unavailable, check whether you can play an installed copy on your own Xbox. XBPlayer does not provide a game license.
Forza Horizon 6: a new journey through Japan
Horizon 6 launched on May 19, 2026 for Xbox Series X|S and PC. The opening centers on your arrival at the festival: after the prologue, you get to know the world and unlock the first events. Early options include the Shirakawa Circuit race and Hokubu Time Attack. You can choose a race with a clear finish or set out to explore the roads that have opened up.
Choose it for a new campaign and a Japanese setting. If you want to continue with the cars and events you have already collected in Mexico, stay with FH5: launching a different installment does not continue the same campaign. Horizon 6 has no installable Xbox One version; Remote Play requires Series X|S. Cloud access, game entitlement and the first steps are covered in the Forza Horizon 6 on a phone guide.
Forza Horizon 5: drive through Mexico without entering a race
Horizon 5's strength is its open world: you can explore Mexico's roads, take part in campaign events and try community-created EventLab challenges. Choose it if the journey itself interests you more than constantly chasing a lap time. Free roaming gives you a chance to settle in before entering a race against opponents.
Once free roam is available, take a familiar car and choose a paved road with clearly visible corners. First try smooth steering at low speed, then braking before a turn. If that rhythm feels comfortable, move on to a road event. A high-speed downhill run and a busy online race will place different demands on your reactions.
On a phone, watch how clearly you can see the road curving in the distance and read the minimap. Try different camera views and keep the one that lets you spot corners earlier. If the interface is hard to read, Horizon 5 has a menu and gameplay text-size setting; it does not enlarge the road itself. For first-launch and control details, see the Forza Horizon 5 on Android guide.
Forza Motorsport: one corner, several attempts
Motorsport suits players who enjoy gradually refining a lap: choosing a braking point, finding the right line and carefully adding throttle on the exit. The Builders Cup career includes Open Practice to help you learn a car and track, with corner scoring. In Free Play, you can set up your own race; in Rivals, you compete on time.
Start with Open Practice in the single-player career. Pick one clearly identifiable corner and drive it several times in the same car. Look beyond the final lap time: can you lift off the throttle, brake at your chosen marker and turn without extra corrections? This gives you a useful way to judge whether playing on your phone feels right.
A controller with analog triggers is especially useful here: trigger travel lets you modulate throttle and braking. Check that a partial press differs from a full press with your particular phone, controller and client. If the controls feel delayed, compare the same corner on the console's screen when using Remote Play. One poor lap does not establish a connection problem.
Save Featured Multiplayer for a session you will not need to interrupt: these online events include practice, qualifying and a scheduled race start. Opening a menu should not be treated as pausing the shared race.
DIRT 5: individual tracks, off-road routes and changing surfaces
Choose DIRT 5 if you prefer off-road routes and a varied selection of vehicles, from rally cars to buggies and trucks. It uses individual tracks rather than Horizon's open-world travel. Alongside Career, it offers Arcade and Time Trial; Playgrounds lets you create and play community challenges, including Gymkhana, Smash Attack and Time Attack.
For your first drive, open Time Trial and repeat one chosen track in the same car. Then try Arcade to see whether you enjoy racing against opponents. That makes it easier to decide whether this style of racing appeals to you before moving into a sequence of career events.
On a small screen, watch the track boundary and the direction of the next corner. Weather and busy scenery can make landmarks harder to pick out. If you keep noticing a corner too late, try another camera view or a larger screen. A sharper picture alone does not make the route easier to read.
Controls and pausing: what to check before a full race
With a controller, try steering while using the throttle and brakes. With touch controls, position XBPlayer's controls so your fingers do not cover the road or important landmarks. Make sure you can steer while holding the throttle, then release it and brake without changing your grip on the phone. See the racing touch-layout guide for the setup steps.
If you often need to step away, start in a single-player mode and check pausing in advance: open the game's own menu and see whether the timer and cars stop. Do not treat minimizing XBPlayer as a pause command. For an online race, allow time to reach the finish; stopping your own inputs does not stop the other participants.
For an evening of exploration, choose Horizon: Japan in FH6 or familiar Mexico in FH5. For the satisfaction of a precise racing line, start with a lap in Motorsport; for different surfaces and vehicles, try a DIRT 5 track. There is a dedicated racing touch layout, and if the road is clear but labels are too small, the readability guide can help.
