Xbox Co-op Games on Android: How to Play with Friends
Three co-op games to stream from Xbox to Android: player counts, compatible versions and what to check before a shared session.
On this page
Choose It Takes Two for a two-player adventure, Overcooked! All You Can Eat for a lively team evening, or Deep Rock Galactic for an expedition with different roles. In the first, you overcome obstacles together; in the second, you try to finish a kitchen shift; in the third, you mine resources and return to base. Before inviting friends, compare editions, platforms and how each participant will launch their own game.
Choose by player count and screen layout
| Game | Online co-op | What to check on Android |
|---|---|---|
| It Takes Two | Exactly two players; a story and complementary actions | Your half of the split screen, platforms and prompts |
| Overcooked! All You Can Eat | Two to four players; dividing up kitchen tasks | Orders, ingredients and your chef's position on the shared screen |
| Deep Rock Galactic | Two to four players; exploration, mining and combat | Finding your way through a dark cave and controlling a first-person camera |
Start with a short shared task: assemble the group, try the controls and make sure you can hear one another. It will then be easier to choose a goal for a longer session.
Prepare a separate game session for each player
For an online meetup, note four things: where the game runs, its edition and store, the account each player uses, and whether they have access to online play. For example, “Xbox Series S → Remote Play → Android” for you and “PC → Microsoft Store” for a friend. “PC” alone is not enough: in Deep Rock Galactic, the store determines compatibility.
First launch the installed game on your Xbox and check access under the correct profile. Then connect Android using the first Remote Play session guide. Paid console games require console multiplayer access under Xbox's terms for online play; a streaming client does not replace it. If you choose Xbox Cloud Gaming instead of your own console, each participant must check the game and their account entitlements separately. Inclusion in this roundup does not mean a game is available in the cloud.
It Takes Two and Overcooked! All You Can Eat also support local co-op on one console. The setup below is for online play, with a separate game session and controller for each participant. It lets you join from different devices without sharing a single phone.
Who can play together, and with which version?
First compare each player's exact edition and platform. Online play requires a separate game session for everyone; one XBPlayer stream does not create extra player slots.
It Takes Two: exactly two players
For the full story, one player needs the full game and the other needs either the full game or Friend's Pass for their platform. Update both versions. Since October 15, 2026, the shared crossplay group includes Xbox One, Series X|S, PC, PS4/5 and Switch 2; the original Switch is excluded. On a phone, check your half of the split screen.
Overcooked! All You Can Eat: two to four players
Everyone must have All You Can Eat. Standalone Overcooked! 2 cannot join this session. For different platforms, check that crossplay is enabled; divide cooking and serving tasks before the level.
Deep Rock Galactic: two to four players
Xbox can play with the Windows version from the Microsoft Store. Steam and PlayStation are outside this group. Check the PC version's store before inviting anyone; XBPlayer does not change the restriction.
One Xbox and several controllers
It Takes Two and All You Can Eat support local co-op. Check it on the console itself first. For multiple players through one Android device, ask our team in advance about compatibility with your device, controllers and game. For the online setup in this article, each participant needs a separate game session.
Each player must check online-play and cloud entitlements separately. After inviting everyone, check voice in both directions and complete one shared task before a long session.
It Takes Two: Friend's Pass and crossplay after the update
According to EA's announcement, It Takes Two supports online crossplay between Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 4/5 and Nintendo Switch 2 from October 15, 2026. Both players need to update the game. The original Nintendo Switch is not in that shared list: EA describes separate options for playing with other Switch systems.
One player needs the full game to play through the whole story. The friend downloads Friend's Pass for their platform, and the owner sends an invitation from the game's main menu. If neither person owns the full version, Friend's Pass lets you try the first chapter. The pass does not remove online-play requirements on the chosen platform.
The game uses split screen even online. On a phone, first check whether platform edges and prompts are visible on your half, then try moving and jumping together and performing an action with your partner. A physical controller is a sensible starting point: your fingers will not cover an already reduced play area. If details remain too small, try a tablet or another screen.
The inviting player's progress determines where you continue: they choose a saved point or an available chapter. EA also confirms that a guest's accumulated progress carries over when moving from Friend's Pass to the full version. Do not confuse that condition with a promise of save transfers between any platforms.
Overcooked! All You Can Eat: check the edition and assign roles
All You Can Eat supports playing together across Xbox One and Series X|S, Steam, PlayStation 4/5 and Nintendo Switch. Every player must have All You Can Eat: the standalone Overcooked! 2 cannot join that session. Invite friends for the campaign; Arcade offers matchmaking. If you use different devices, make sure crossplay is enabled in the game's settings.
You need to distinguish orders and items on the shared screen. Before the first round, agree on who chops, who cooks and who serves. Try picking up an item and placing it at the correct workstation. For a gentler introduction, enable Assist Mode, which can increase level and order time. Text size can be changed in the game's accessibility settings.
Saves from the standalone Overcooked! and Overcooked! 2 do not transfer to All You Can Eat. All You Can Eat saves do not transfer between different platforms either. With Remote Play, the game keeps running on your Xbox; moving from a television to Android does not by itself change its platform version.
Deep Rock Galactic: Xbox works with Microsoft Store, not Steam
For an Xbox and PC group, choose a compatible pairing: the Xbox version of Deep Rock Galactic can play with the Windows version from the Microsoft Store. Steam cannot join that group; PlayStation is also outside the Xbox crossplay group described by the developer. XBPlayer does not change this restriction. The developer separately confirms shared progress between Xbox and Microsoft Store on Windows; use your same account.
On an expedition, everyone sees the cave in first person. It helps to divide responsibilities: the Scout lights the way, the Driller cuts passages, the Engineer provides platforms and turrets, and the Gunner supplies fire support. Picking a class does not replace learning the controls: before a difficult mission, try moving while turning the camera, lighting the route and switching equipment. With touch controls, it is particularly important to do these without blocking your view.
Choose an easy mission and allow enough time for navigation and extraction. For the first trial, it is useful to complete one expedition and assess the result after returning to base. Do not expect disconnecting the stream to save an arbitrary point inside a mission.
Try one meetup before a long session
- Launch the games and gather everyone using an invitation or the game's own menu. The group list should contain the right profiles; connecting Android to Xbox does not itself add a friend to the group.
- Check voice in both directions. Hearing game audio in your headphones does not mean your teammate hears your microphone. If voice does not work through your chosen setup, agree on a separate communication channel.
- Complete one shared task and try the controls you need. If the screen itself is the problem, use the phone text and interface check.
- Before stopping, wait for a suitable endpoint: a save in It Takes Two, the level result in Overcooked!, or the end of an expedition in Deep Rock Galactic. If the connection drops, restore the stream and check the game's state first; do not restart the console blindly.
If streaming works but a friend cannot join, start with the game version, store, updates, crossplay setting and participants' accounts. If the group is assembled but blur or input lag gets in the way, check the stream itself. For another team adventure, see the separate Sea of Thieves on Android guide.
If you use Remote Play from your Xbox and communicate in an Xbox party, follow the Party Chat and microphone guide to set up voice. In-game communication and Discord are configured separately. Agree on a stopping point: an obstacle or chapter in It Takes Two, a chosen kitchen level, or a completed Deep Rock Galactic expedition.
