Xbox Party Chat in XBPlayer: enable and test your microphone
Join a party on Xbox, start Remote Play and enable “Party chat microphone”. Check separately that you hear the other person and they hear you.

XBPlayer can send your voice to Xbox Party Chat during Remote Play. First join the required party on your console, then enable “Party chat microphone” in the stream controls and allow microphone access on the device running XBPlayer. The switch sends voice to a party you have already joined; it does not create a party or invite friends by itself.
What to prepare before talking
- On the Xbox, sign in to the profile you intend to use and join the required Party Chat group. Make sure another person is there and can reply.
- Start Remote Play from your console in XBPlayer. Check that the picture updates and game audio works.
- Connect the headset you want to use to the phone, tablet or other device running XBPlayer. Check its own microphone mute button if it has one.
Game audio and your voice travel in different directions. Hearing music in your headphones confirms playback on the device, but does not yet tell you whether the other person hears your microphone. Headphones are useful for the first conversation so speaker audio does not feed back into the microphone.
Enable the microphone in a session
- Open the stream controls. On a touch screen, tap the bottom-center handle, then the gear. If the controls are hidden, tap the stream first to bring them back.
- Find “Party chat microphone” and enable it.
- If the system requests microphone access, allow it for XBPlayer. After responding, check the switch’s state in the panel.
- Return to the stream, say a short phrase and ask the other person to confirm they can hear you.
- Ask the other person to reply. Check both directions before starting a game together.
If you previously denied permission, change XBPlayer’s microphone access in the system’s app settings and enable it again in the session. System permission and the XBPlayer switch are two separate requirements: neither replaces the other.
To stop sending your voice, turn the switch off. Ending the session also stops capture. After returning from another app or starting a new session, check the microphone state again before assuming you can be heard.
If conversation does not work, identify the direction
| What happens | What to check |
|---|---|
| I hear the party, but they cannot hear me | Check “Party chat microphone”, XBPlayer’s system permission and the headset’s microphone mute. Make sure the required profile is still in the party on this Xbox. |
| They hear me, but I cannot hear the party | Check the device’s audio output and volume, party audio settings on the console and whether the other person is muted. Granting microphone permission again will not fix incoming sound. |
| No game audio or voices | Restore audio output first using the no-sound guide. |
| Voice disappeared after changing headsets | Check the selected system input, hardware mute button and new connection. Compare the built-in microphone and headset in turn if the device lets you select them. |
| There is repetition or echo | Lower speaker volume or use headphones. Check whether the same conversation is playing nearby on another device. |
Change one factor at a time. For example, keep the same party and switch from the headset to the built-in microphone first; only then try a new session separately. If the microphone also fails to record in an ordinary local app, start with system permission and the headset connection. That test separates local capture from delivery to Party Chat.
What this guide covers
This guide covers voice in Xbox Party Chat through Remote Play from your own console. In-game chat, Discord and voice in a cloud session use different scenarios; the party microphone switch should not be treated as their shared setting. For cloud access, use the Xbox Cloud Gaming guide, and check the capabilities of a particular game chat within that game.
If part of the conversation goes through another app, first verify Party Chat separately with one other person. This provides a clear starting point and helps you avoid changing two different chats’ settings at once.
What to send if voice is not restored
Contact our team at hi@hetko.eu with the device and OS, XBPlayer version, Xbox model, built-in microphone or headset model, permission and switch state, whether game audio is audible, who cannot hear whom, and what changed when testing without the headset. Specify Remote Play and a party on your console.
You do not need to identify the cause first. For example: “I hear the game and the party member, but they cannot hear me; permission and the switch are enabled, and the built-in microphone works in a local recording.” Substitute your own observations; recording someone else’s conversation is unnecessary for the first support request.
